COSTA RICA AIRPORT TAX HIKE DUE TO TAKE EFFECT IN JULY 2016

Departing Costa Rica from all airports will rise by $2 in taxes, starting in July 2016 , bringing the total cost of your journey out of the country to $31.

This additional $4.5 million a year collected by SENASA will provide improvements for laboratories and inspections conducted throughout all Costa Rican airports, according to interim director Alexis Sandí.

Figures from last year by the Costa Rican Tourism Board, stated that visitors made 1.9 million trips to Costa Rica via air and the Nationals (Tico´s) took 600,000 flights out.  Costa Rica currently has the cheapest airport departure tax in Central America, which will rise above Guatemala by a dollar this July.
