Le Monastère Restaurant and Cave in Escazú
Le Monastère Restaurant and Cave is located up on the hill above Paco Commercial in San Rafael de Escazú. The restaurant boasts a spectacular 270 degree views from the Central Valley to the Gulf of Nicoya.
The building has a long history, once the residence of a wealthy family chapel which was later converted to monastery in the early 20th century. The interior of Le Monastère is largely influenced and decorated in European tradition, filled with antique photographs that display the history of the site and decorated with marble sculptures. There is a grand piano playing classical music to give diners the ultimate romantic and fine dining atmosphere.
The servers at Le Monastère are adorned in French monk robes from the 19th century.
Le Monastère offers a fabulous dining menu that can be described as International cuisine with a French influence. Appetizers include such dishes as fried Camembert with a blackberry sauce and burgundy snails served in a garlic butter as well as a traditional French onion soup.
The Chef’s main course recommendations include a Sea Bass in a Terragon sauce or the duck breast with a port wine sauce. In full French tradition, the menu also boast delicious classics such as Crêpe Suzette, Crème Brûlée, Tarte Tatin, chocolate soufflés, and more.
