THE LITTLE THEATRE GROUPThe Little Theatre Group Costa Rica

Always scouting around the corners of Costa Rica to find their best kept secrets, Pura Vida Guide has fallen upon a theatre group in the heart of the San José suburb of Escazú, where they have recently found a new and permanent home to entertain us all with an array of productions throughout the year to suit all tastes. With a talented cast of 135 members, The Little Theatre Group, as is so aptly named, is celebrating by finally opening its doors to the public after quite a long sabbatical. It is now run by long-term members and husband and wife, Bruce and Annette Hallett, after taking over from Blanche Brown, who expertly kept it going until the final curtain call back in 2008.

The large, new theatre house is set amid beautiful gardens down a leafy road in San Rafael, Escazú with ample free parking right on its doorstep. You really feel like you are entering something rather magical with such a friendly and warm welcome by Annette and Bruce along with the cast flitting around in excitement, to help guide you through the foyer and make your visit comfortable. A bar severing a variety of refreshments and snacks is to one side of the theatre´s entrance with a small, pretty courtyard adjoining to relax both before the performance starts or during the intervals.

To kick-start the new venture, Pura Vida Guide was invited to view the latest production, Natural Acts, in conjunction with the Earth Charter International to raise awareness in advance of the United Nations Convention on Climate Change. Led by directors Douglas F. Williamson, Ann Antkiw and Annette Hallett, the specially written Monologues and Plays were in parts, humorous and throughout, extremely insightful, provocative and emotional.

The level of talent from the entire cast was truly awesome, where the packed audience laughed and cried, clapped and cheered until sadly the play ended all too soon. As we watched the people leave the Little Theatre Group and walk back down the path again, the joy and smiles on each of their faces was evidence enough to confirm that it wasn´t going to be their last visit there!

So in anticipation for the next upcoming event, and if it is anything to go by from the first memorable production, Pura Vida Guide highly recommends that you mark these dates down for the delightful classic, A Christmas Carol, which starts on the 7th through to the 13th December. It is strongly advised to make reservations as soon as possible with tickets selling out fast and word is spreading around San José that the Little Theatre Group is back with a bang!

To see more on the future events for next year along with the Christmas Carol in December, go to www.littletheatregroup.org , visit their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/theatreCR/ or call 8858 1446 and make your reservations.

Pura Vida Guide will also try and cover as much as possible to keep you informed on this gem of a place to endorse and enjoy a little of the Costa Rican Arts and Social scene, so please pop to our own Facebook page and watch out for new events as they come up – https://www.facebook.com/puravidaguide/
