Turrialba Volcano “BIG BANG” ERUPTION on Costa Rica’s National Holiday

Turrialba Volcano Eruption – July 25th, 2016

EXTRAORDINARY NEW FOOTAGE OF TURRIALBA´S “BIG BANG” ERUPTION ON COSTA RICA´S NATIONAL HOLIDAY

Whilst everyone was rising to enjoy the national holiday on Monday, Turrialba Volcano started the celebration with a big bang at 7.22 in the morning!  Blowing out a huge column of ash, rock and steam up to 3,000 meters high, this colossal eruption sent its debris across Central Valley in yet another dramatic activity from this active volcano.

The National University’s Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI) showed the footage on their facebook page which can be viewed below in all its magnitude.

The Turrialba volcano sits 50 kilometers east of Costa Rica´s capital, but so far it appears the Juan Santamaría International Airport in Alajuela is operating as usual, since two moderate eruptions on Sunday and the latest, more powerful one yesterday morning.
